The Naunehal Development Organisation (NDO)has been working as Citizen Sector Organisation since the early eighties in the valley of Nagar in Gilgit District Northern Areas. It has established successful links and partnerships with the Government of Pakistan and then national and international NGOs and Donors including AKDN agencies, AKRSP, AKESP, AKHSP, WWF, IUCN, World Bank, Government of Japan and many local village-based organisations in the sectors of Education, Health, Women Development and Environment. Meanwhile the NDO has been playing the role of an umbrella organisation for the LSOs in Nagar in collaboration with AKRSP.
The NDO comprise in its board of Members the enlightened and committed representatives representing all walks of life with gender and regional balance. The NDO has achieved some landmark achievements in the history of Nagar Valley in the field of community development with special reference to Female Education and the Empowerment of Women.
The general body of the NDO comprise of 37 members and they form the board of 14 members who elect their Chairperson. The board is active for a period of one year annual body meeting.
The Naunehal Development organisation is the only representative organisation widely at grass root level of the people of Nagar. The NDO have included in its Five Year Plan the objective of establishing Home Industry by promoting the unique traditional products with local raw material. They include: Patti, Carpet, Food Processing, Woodwork, Vocational Centres, Gem Cutting, Hoteling and Tourism Management.
